Refractive Eye Surgeries

For over 30 years, the Refractive Surgery Department at Al Arrayed Eye Center has been a pioneer in vision correction, established by Dr. Hasan Al Arrayed with a dedication to innovation and excellence. Beginning with RK (Radial Keratotomy) vision correction surgeries in the early 1980s, we have continually advanced to offer the latest procedures, including the state-of-the-art SMILE-Pro surgery. As the first center in the Middle East to acquire the Visumax 800 and MEL 90, Zeiss Suite, we provide our patients with unmatched precision and safety in refractive surgery. We’ve learned a lot along the way, but our commitment to excellence remains unwavering, ensuring that every patient receives the highest standard of care.

What is SMILE PRO?

SMILE PRO is an advanced laser vision correction technique and an enhanced version of the original SMILE procedure, which stands for Small Incision Lenticule Extraction. This technique uses femtosecond laser technology to correct vision issues, such as myopia and astigmatism, by precisely removing a small piece of corneal tissue without needing a large incision, unlike traditional LASIK procedures.

This method allows for highly accurate corrections while minimizing the incision size, resulting in a faster recovery and fewer complications, making it a safe and effective choice for those looking to correct vision problems.

Benefits of SMILE PRO:

  • Greater Precision and Gentleness on the Eye Lens: SMILE PRO offers highly accurate correction with minimal impact on the eye’s natural structures.
  • Shorter Recovery Time: Patients experience quicker recovery than with other vision correction surgeries.
  • Speed (5 Seconds): The procedure itself is very fast, taking only around 5 seconds.
  • Stronger and More Durable Cornea: The cornea retains more strength and durability compared to other LASIK procedures.
  • No Postoperative Dryness: Unlike other procedures, SMILE PRO significantly reduces the risk of dry eyes after surgery.
  • Clear and Stable Vision for a Longer Period: Patients enjoy improved clarity and stability of vision over time.
  • Lower Risk of Postoperative Eye Infections: SMILE PRO decreases the likelihood of eye infections following the procedure.

What is Femto Pro Lasik ?

Femto LASIK PRO is an advanced vision correction surgery technique that uses femtosecond laser technology to create a precise incision in the cornea instead of traditional surgical tools. This technique is used to treat vision issues such as myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism.

In this procedure, a femtosecond laser is used to lift a thin flap of the cornea with high precision. Another laser is then used to reshape the corneal surface according to the patient’s needs, correcting visual impairments. After repositioning the flap, the eye begins to heal without the need for stitches.

Benefits of Femto LASIK PRO:

  • High Precision: Allows for a precise incision without traditional surgical intervention.
  • Increased Safety: Reduces complications associated with using surgical blades.
  • Fast Recovery Time: Enables patients to return to daily activities more quickly.
  • Comfort During the Procedure: Patients experience less discomfort compared to traditional methods.
  • Femto LASIK PRO is an effective and safe option for individuals with vision problems who seek correction through a precise and secure procedure.

What is PRESBYOND?

PRESBYOND laser blended vision is an advanced LASIK surgery for treating patients with presbyopia, an age-related condition that requires glasses for reading and near activities. This technology preserves clear vision across all distances – near, middle, and far -simultaneously, making it an ideal choice for individuals over 40 seeking refractive laser surgery. As we age, the natural lens inside our eye loses its flexibility, resulting in the loss of the ability for near focusing. The effects of this are usually seen after the age of 40 which is called PRESBYOPIA.

Advantages of PRESBYOND

  • Specifically designed for individuals aged 40 and above.
  • Corrects both near and distance vision.
  • Pain-free and non-surgical.
  • Quick recovery, allowing patients to return to daily activities faster.
  • Clear and stable vision for a longer duration.
  • Achieves clear vision across near, far, and intermediate distances.

Who are the candidates eligible for the PRESBYOND?

PRESBYOND laser treatment is suitable for a large proportion of people suffering with presbyopia. Although used primarily to compensate for reading glasses, it can be combined with correction of short-sightedness (myopia), long-sightedness (hyperopia) and astigmatism. All patients over the age of 40 could consider combining their Laser Vision Correction with Presbyond Laser Blended Vision to experience freedom from reading glasses & lenses.

How PRESBYOND works?

Presbyond uses excimer laser to sculpt the cornea and focuses the dominant eye for distance and the non-dominant eye for near sight. It is different from traditional monovision or micro-monovision, as the sophisticated wavefront laser profile expands the depth of focus for each eye. This improves your vision whether you are reading a book or driving a car, reducing or eliminating the need for glasses.

what is Lasek / PRK

PRK Surface LASIK, also known as “Photorefractive Keratectomy”, is a type of vision correction surgery that uses laser technology to reshape the surface of the cornea to correct visual impairments such as myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism. In this procedure, the outer layer of the cornea (epithelium) is completely removed, after which an excimer laser is used to reshape the surface of the cornea, allowing light to focus correctly on the retina. The cornea then heals on its own, with the epithelial layer regenerating over several days.

Benefits of Femto LASIK PRO:

  • No Need for a Corneal Flap: Reduces risks associated with lifting a flap, as done in traditional LASIK.
  • Suitable for Patients with Thin Corneas: Can be performed on individuals for whom other LASIK options are not suitable.
  • Stable and Long-lasting Results: Provides a permanent vision correction after recovery.

Drawbacks of PRK Surface LASIK:

  • Longer Recovery Period: It may take several days to weeks to achieve optimal vision.
  • Postoperative Discomfort: Patients may experience some pain and discomfort during the initial days following surgery.

PRK Surface LASIK is a safe and effective option for individuals seeking vision correction, especially those who may not be suitable candidates for traditional LASIK due to corneal structure.
